The construction of the new road from Ochomogo to Las Salinas has been announced as “the start of the construction of the ‘Coastal Highway’ (Costanera)” by Rosario Murillo, the Vice President of Nicaragua.
Speaking on her regular midday address on Canal 4, Rosario Murillo said that the project would start this Thursday 26th of August 2021 and the road would be cobbled (interlocking gray concrete bricks or “adoquines”), 29 kilometers in length and include 3 new Bridges.
Rosario Murillo announced that “500 jobs will be created in the 34 months that the work will take and that 84,000 citizens will directly benefit from the new road and in addition, all of those who are going to enjoy the landscapes and locations along the route which will connect to the future Coastal Highway (or Costanera) on the Pacific Coast with tourism centers in the Department of Rivas.
The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure (MTI by its acronym in Spanish) will begin the construction of the Ochomogo-Las Salinas road which will start at Puente Ochomogo which is actually in the Department of Carazo and then continue through the Department of Rivas on its route to Las Salinas.
The Ochomogo Bridge is a well-known landmark for visitors to Nicaragua and crosses the river of the same name which in turn came from the Nahuatl community originally living nearby.

As reported in a previous Nica-Biz post on July 19th 2021, Óscar Mojica, the head of MTI announced the Ochomogo to Las Salinas project at the inauguration of the new Cárdenas Bridge on the 16th of July
At that time Mojica said that the project will begin in September of this year and the route will be a huge boost for tourism and producers in the area and would be a popular traffic route for tourists from Managua and the international airport to the popular beach communities.
