KLM Resumes Flights to Costa Rica (SJ & Liberia)

Europeans travelling to one of their favorite destinations will be delighted with the news that KLM will be resuming flights to Costa Rica on the 29th of June 2021.

Using Boeing 777-200 aircraft with a maximum capacity of 320 passengers, KLM will operate three flights per week from their hub at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol.

They will fly direct to the Juan Santamaría International Airport in San José, Costa Rica before flying on to the Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport, also known as Liberia International Airport in Guanacaste.

The tentative flight times (subject to approval) will be arrival at San José at 1:05 p.m. and at Liberia Guanacaste at 3:30 p.m. Return flights to Amsterdam are currently scheduled for 4:40 p.m.

History

On Friday 29th of January 2021, KLM suspended long-haul flights from the Netherlands to Costa Rica due to stricter Dutch government Covid-19 testing policies that affected KLM’s ability to provide an international service. Tourist figures show that in 2019, some 35,000 passengers from the Netherlands visited Costa Rica.

Onward Travel to Nicaragua

From Liberia, it’s easy to travel to the Peñas Blancas border crossing with Nicaragua. Those who got their PCR test in Europe, prior to their flight should have no problem crossing into Nicaragua on the same day they arrive at Liberia. Or alternatively they can stay in Liberia and can get tested The Peñas Blancas border has regular opening hours of 6am to midnight every day.
