The Nicaraguan Tourism Institute (El Instituto Nicaragüense de Turismo – INTUR) has published a collection of Nicaragua tourism media mentions from on line articles and web pages around the world during the month of May 2021.
I have picked out and commented on a few of the entries, or you can go to the INTUR post here in Spanish; “Turismo nicaragüense en espacios internacionales en mayo”.
Si Viaggia (“You Travel”) from Italy gave Nicaragua a mention in an article about where Italians can go on vacation without requiring to be quarantined when they get there.
El Periódico Digital Centro Americano y del Caribe ran a promotion on Granada and in particular highlighted the national tourism and weekend visitors trying the famous vigorón and a horse-drawn carriage ride. The digital newspaper “El Periódico Digital Centro Americano y del Caribe” produces a Spanish and English edition and has a wide coverage of readers interested in information on Central America, the Caribbean and Latin American. Until the flights return to normal, INTUR is focusing on National Tourism.
GQ (formerly Gentleman’s Quarterly) is published by Condé Nast, the publishing house that is behind some iconic brands like;, Vogue, The New Yorker, Vanity Fair and Condé Nast Traveler.
The Mexico and Latin America version of GQ picked 6 secret islands for a May article which included Jicaro Island on Lake Nicaragua near Granada, home to Jicaro Island Lodge, its 9 cabins, local food and activities.
El Universal is a Mexican newspaper based in Mexico City (founded in 1916 in the city of Santiago de Queretaro). They were one of many that published articles on the theme; “What are the 10 safest countries to travel in a pandemic”. Nicaragua was number 9 out of 10 healthiest destinations “that have best managed the pandemic”, according to a study based on data from the WHO and the University of Oxford”.
Prensa Latina were thinking about Happy Hour with a Nicaragua tourism media mention of Flor de Caña (arguably the best rum in the world), made right here in Nicaragua. The article gives some clues to the reason the rum is so good and also gives the story and recipe for El Macuá, The National Drink of Nicaragua.
Forbes France, the French edition of this famous magazine ran an article entitled; “Unforgettable experiences: the best post-pandemic nature trips” and put Nicaragua right up there with some of the most exotic locations in the world under the sub-heading of “Tropical temptations in Central America”. Even though we have to share with Costa Rica and Panama the article does speak of “unexpected riches, astonishing beauty and archaeological gems”. OK, it’s also a bit of a Star Clippers cruise ship promotion but that allows a mention of “The beaches of San Juan del Sur (SJdS being one of the day stops for the cruise) as very popular with surfers and those who like to watch surfers.
Q’Pasa (What’s Up?). Paula Garcia gives her opinion on where to find affordable property if you wish to invest in real estate in Latin America and picks the Spanish colonial City of Granada on the shore of Lake Nicaragua as a “calm metropolis with colorful streets”. Not sure what she means by “Prices in Granada range between US $ 277.40 and US $ 29,846.50” but there are plenty of Realtors who understand the prices.
