As part of their specialized and technical training service, MEFCCA, the Ministry of the Economy, Family, Community, Cooperatives and Associative has produced the new Nicaraguan Import and Export Guide for those involved in the import and export of foodstuffs and other products.

The idea of the guide is to assist those businesses with identifying the various government departments that each type of import or export falls under and to ensure compliance with the all of the rules.

Some of the export sectors mentioned in the guide include those products from animals, vegetable, grains, wood, artisan crafts, leather, live animals as well as hazardous and non-hazardous waste.

With such a variety of import and export products needing approval from numerous authorities, there was a need to consolidate the information in one publication.

Some of the government institutions regulating exports and imports are;

CETREX – Export Procedures Center

The “Centro de Trámites de las Exportaciones” is a public entity providing services to the export sector. As such, it comes under the National Commission of Promotion of Exports (CNPE).

IPSA – Agricultural Health and Protection Institute

As its name suggests, the “Instituto de Protección y Sanidad Agropecuaria” is responsible for the health and safety of agricultural, fishing and forestry production. They are involved in animal and plant health, quality, hygiene and safety of agricultural products and food.

MARENA – Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources

“Ministerio del Ambiente y los Recursos Naturales” – Responsible for regulating the conservation and use of Nicaragua’s natural resources.

INPESCA – Nicaraguan Institute of Fisheries and Aquaculture

INAFOR – The National Forestry Institute
