The Nicaraguan Beer Company; Compañía Cervecera de Nicaragua S.A. (CCN for short) produces a variety of different beers, one of them being Toña, Nicaragua’s Best Selling Beer.
By distributing and promoting their number one brand in Spain, CCN is hoping to use the opportunity as a springboard into other international markets.
As a start, CNN will be appealing to the Nicaraguans living and working in Spain with a product they are all familiar with. Toña’s Global Manager, Mario Gutiérrez Lovo said “With the introduction of this brand in Spain, the brewery seeks to attract Nicaraguan citizens residing in the country and conquer the Spanish consumer”. He added “In each of our cans and bottles you will find that flavor that immediately connects you with the charms of our beautiful land of lakes and volcanoes”.
According to the National Institute of Statistics of Spain, almost 60,000 Nicaraguans live in the European country (more than 40,000 of them are women). It’s the third main destination for Nicaraguan migrants after Costa Rica and the United States.
Other Export Markets
Since 2003, Toña has been shipped to the United States and Costa Rica, our neighbors to the south where estimates say there are several hundred thousand Nicaraguans living and working.
CCN also sells Toña in Honduras, El Salvador, Panama, Canada and Australia.
Toña
As stated, Toña is the leading brand of CCN. It was first introduced in Nicaragua in 1976. It is described as “a lager beer with an excellent balance between body and smooth flavor”. It is CCN’s only export brand and is distributed in disposable bottles as well as 350 ml cans.

CCN produces seven different beers; Toña, Toña Lite, Victoria Clásica, Victoria Frost, Victoria Maestro, Premium and Mytos. They also import; Heineken, Miller, Sol, Tsingtao, Imperial and Gallo.
Although Toña is Nicaragua’s Best Selling Beer, Victoria Clásica was the first beer ever to me commercially produced in Nicaragua, back in 1926.
