Yesterday, Wednesday April 28th, 2021, the government announced the next step in Nicaragua’s Covid-19 Vaccination Plan.
Starting on May the 3rd 2021, the first dose (of two doses) of vaccine will be offered to those 55 and over with chronic diseases. Delivery will be at the departmental, regional and national hospitals. The exact method of obtaining an appointment or obtaining more details was not announced.
The first dose will also be offered to front line health workers and government workers from customs and border posts.
The government also took the opportunity to give a reminder to all of those on Nicaragua’s Covid-19 Vaccination Plan and who received the first dose between the 7th and the 30th of April. They stressed that they must remember to return for their second dose. These people will be in the group that received the Covishield vaccine from India.
The date for their second vaccination is written on the Covid-19 Vaccination Card they were given at the time of their first one. The second injection must be applied 9 weeks after the application of the first dose.
Nicaraguan Government Promotes the Use of Masks
The government referred to the Covishield Vaccine as being 70% effective in immunity but the population must continue to look after themselves and apply other measures such as carrying out social, cultural and sporting events in open spaces.
“It also means that we must continue to promote the use of masks as well as all of the preventive actions supported by the Ministry of Health such as the continuous washing of hands and also the precautions with our older adults”
Nicaragua Borrows US $100 million for more Vaccines
This Tuesday the 27th of April 2021, Nicaragua accepted the option of a loan for US $100 million from The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI by its acronym in Spanish) for the acquisition of more Covid-19 vaccinations.
The result being that 3.27 million Nicaraguans could be vaccinated against Covid-19 as soon as Nicaragua can get the vaccines from any of the suppliers it’s been negotiating with; Sputnik V, Moderna and Oxford-AstraZeneca (Covishield).
I’m a visa resident of Granada. I’m 71 years old. I have a letter from my New York doctors affirming treatment for Multiple Myeloma. How will I obtain the vaccine?
Right now you need to be a Legal Resident to get the vaccine.
