Monday July 5th 2021 – The weather division of the Nicaraguan Institute for Territorial Studies (INETER) predicts that the rains over Nicaragua will continue for this week.

Marcio Baca, the Director of Meteorology at INETER reported that “the cause of the rain is a low pressure system that will move in today and tomorrow, Monday July 5th and Tuesday July 6th and will stay until another tropical wave could enter the region during the night of Wednesday 7th or the morning of Thursday 8th of July which will bring more rain.

In Managua, 56 millimeters (2.20 inches) of rain fell early this morning in Districts VI and VII.

Baca said “The low pressures are producing scattered rains over Nicaragua, a situation that will continue with the main rainfall in the south and west Pacific, the north and central regions and the Caribbean”.

Temperatures will remain in the normal range for the time of year; 35-36 degrees. However, the lack of wind will cause the “thermal sensation” to increase. This means that although it raining, it will remain hot for the early part of the week, especially in Managua.

As for coastal navigation, Baca assured that seas would be optimal on both the Caribbean and Pacific coasts with waves in those areas at a manageable 1.5 meters and in the Great Lake; 0.7 meters high.

The monthly prediction for July is that compared to June, the month of July should see an overall reduction in accumulated rain, particularly in the Pacific, central and western parts of the north and central regions.

The phenomenon known as the “Canicular” is a period of reduced rainfall usually lasting from mid-July to mid-August. Officially the Canicular is always talked about as being from mid-July to mid-August. In meteorological terms it’s more like a 6 week period that includes those 4 weeks. During a good Canicular and in some parts of the country, there should be a noticeable reduction in rainfall.

NOTICE: INETER reminds the population to avoid crossing streams and rivers while it is raining and urge taking preventive measures for the remainder of the rainy season.
