With the addition of two more weekly return flights between Madrid in Spain and San José in Costa Rica, the Spanish airline Iberia Airlines (Líneas Aéreas de España, S.A.) is now back to a daily (nonstop) flight schedule between the two countries.
Iberia have experienced a steady demand for seats since their return to Costa Rica in August of 2020 when they were the first flight bringing in tourists to Costa Rica after the border restrictions were established earlier that year.
The daily flight leaves Madrid, Spain at 11:35am and arrives in San José, Costa Rica at 2:30pm local time. After cleaning, re-stocking and re-fueling, the flight leaves San José at 3.55pm and lands in Madrid at 10:45pm.
The aircraft of choice for these flights is the Airbus A330-200 with a capacity of 288 passengers (19 in Business class and 269 in Economy).
Connections
Passengers flying into Madrid, Spain from Central America can take advantage of flight connections Iberia Airlines has to over 90 destinations they fly to in Europe.
For Nicaragua, an efficient luxury coach service from Managua to San José can connect visitors to and from Europe with the Iberia flights.
Iberia Airlines have recovered 17 routes out of a Pre-Covid 19 routes to Latin America.
Central America
In Central America Iberia operates 17 different flights (frequencies); seven to Costa Rica, six to Panama and four to Guatemala-El Salvador.
Iberia says they have plans to connect other countries with their Spain to Costa Rica Flights; “such as Nicaragua and Honduras where they do not yet offer direct flights”.
Iberia consider their strength in the CA region is the ability to link Central America with 90 destinations in Europe and with that offer the possibilities for tourism and business flights between Europe and Central America.
As airlines try and recover from the Covid-19 pandemic, Iberia Airlines report that already in 2021 they are offering 61% of the 2019 seat capacity to Panama and 66% of the 2019 seat capacity to Central America.
