Today, Friday the 15th of October 2021, Nicaragua received the first delivery of 192,000 doses of the new Sputnik Light – single dose vaccine. The delivery, from the Russian Federation, arrived at the Augusto C. Sandino International Airport in Managua.

Also today, the Voluntary Vaccination Program here in Nicaragua received a donation of 38,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccines from the government and people of Trinidad and Tobago.

Sputnik Light

The Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), Russia’s Sovereign Wealth Fund and the Gamaleya National Research Center of Epidemiology and Microbiology, claim that a single application of Sputnik Light has 75% efficacy rate when used on people under the age of 60.

It also claims;

A 70% efficacy against the Delta variant of Covid-19, during the first three months after application.

Over 70 countries with a combined population of over 4 billion people have now authorized the use of the original double dose Sputnik V vaccine.

The one dose Sputnik Light vaccine, developed later, has been approved by more than 15 countries with another 30 countries still going through the approval process.

Sputnik Light can also be used as a “universal booster” for those who previously received another make and type of vaccine.

Efficacy of the single application Sputnik Light vaccine as a booster against the Delta variant (when the patient received a different vaccine) is close to the efficacy achieved by Sputnik V against the Delta variant, that is; over 83% against infection and over 94% against hospitalization.

Sputnik Light and its single dose application makes it a perfect solution for countries with low vaccination rates. Not only is it easier to administer and monitor, it offers a mere flexible re-vaccination option when used as a booster.

The Sputnik Light vaccine continues to be studied by countries looking for a stand-alone solution or as a combination with other vaccines from multiple producers.
