Expect it to be sunny and hot across most of the country as Nicaragua starts the week with a high pressure system from today, Monday 26th April until Wednesday 28th.

According to the weather department of INETER (The Nicaraguan Institute for Territorial Studies), the high pressure system will have a strong influence over the country’s weather. Satellite weather map of Nicaragua.

“Between Monday and Wednesday it will be sunny and hot across Nicaragua. Only the Caribbean and the higher elevations will have cloudy and/or partially cloudy days, mainly towards the afternoon and night with the chance of some light rain in those areas too”, announced Marcio Baca, General Director of Meteorology at INETER

Baca made the prediction that by Thursday and Friday of this week, weather conditions will change as a trough (an elongated area of relatively low pressure) in the north of Central America will cause a movement of the Pacific wind towards the interior of Nicaragua. This will bring cloudier weather on those days which will extend into the weekend. With the cloud also comes a gradual increase in the amount of rain registered in the country?

More evident towards Friday and the weekend will be rains forming at the end of the afternoon and at night, in the Pacific as well as North and South Central regions and some Caribbean regions. These rains are caused by the incursion of the Pacific wind and the troughs that will be in the north of Central America and the Caribbean regions.

As for the ocean, they remain calm and normal with 1.5 meter waves on both coasts and with light winds.

INETER is a Government of Nicaragua technical and scientific organization with departments covering cartography (maps) and cadastral (land and property registration) as well as meteorological, hydrological and geological studies and others. They study and research the physical environment and in particular assist various disaster preparedness organizations in relation to the country’s vulnerability to natural disasters and dangerous natural phenomena.
