Catching my attention today was the announcement of direct flights by WestJet from Montreal, Canada to Managua (MGA), Nicaragua for the next Canadian winter season December 2025 to April 2026.
Although there are news articles referring to the “re-introduction of this seasonal route”, it would appear that WestJet will be servicing the flight portion of a package holiday to Barceló Montelimar (Nicaragua’s only all-inclusive resort) through Sunwing Vacations.
It has been several years since Air Transat cancelled their 2018/2019 program of vacation package deals to the same location in Nicaragua from Toronto and Montreal, Canada.
Sunwing Vacations
Sunwing Vacations was acquired by WestJet as part of the merger with Sunwing Airlines in 2023. It took two years to fully integrate both Canadian companies with WestJet. The travel brand of Sunwing Vacations offers vacation packages with all flights being operated by WestJet aircraft.
The weekly package deals from Montreal depart on a Thursday and commence on December 18th 2025 until April 9th 2026. Flights are shown as about five and a half hours and depart Montreal at 9:30am, arriving in Managua at 2:13 pm local time. From there it’s about 90 minutes by shuttle to the resort. The return flight leaves Managua at 3:15pm on the following Thursday and arrives in Montreal at 9:35pm local time. The Barceló Montelimar Resort is situated on the Pacific coast, immediately north of the town of Masachapa, in the Department of Managua.

It has 293 rooms including the main hotel building as well as cabins located right on the seafront. In addition, guests can take advantage of the excellent leisure facilities including a nightclub and an extensive program of sports and entertainment activities to enjoy with the family.
