Originally introduced by Anasha Campbell, Co-Director of the Instituto Nicaragüense de Turismo (INTUR) in October 2016, the interactive Tourist Map of Nicaragua has recently been updated to cover the various tourist features currently being promoted and featured by INTUR.
Not a road map as such but the interactive map includes traditions, culture, gastronomy, country identity and natural beauty.
Although the Tourist Map of Nicaragua has been constantly updated since its inauguration by virtue of the various annual events listings and the ever changing tourism sector itself, this is the first major site update since 2016.
This was a team effort and included input from the Tourism Development Department, the Nicaraguan Institute of Culture, the Nicaraguan Institute for Municipal Development, the Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources as well as business leaders from the tourism sector and Government of Nicaragua.
Updated Map
- The new map identifies the different attractions, such as; Sun and Beaches, Nature, Colonial Cities, Culture and Adventure and the seven categories under the main map logo are full of information.
- As well as the original Spanish and English versions, INTUR has added German, French, Italian and Chinese to the language options.
- The map also includes a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s) section covering topics such as entry requirements and immigration procedures for Nicaragua, Covid-19 rules and testing information as well as emergency contacts
- All 15 departments (like provinces or states) as well as the two autonomous regions on the Caribbean side have been highlighted in a more user friendly and attractive format to help national tourists and foreigners as well as students who use this map as an education tool.
- There is information on the tourist sector businesses with hotel listings, restaurants, tour operators, guides and transport (land, water and air).
- Under “What to do; the map identifies 16 official INTUR tourist routes such as; coffee, waterfalls and handicrafts.
- “Foodies” will be able to find information on recipes for their favorite Nicaraguan dishes and in the Multimedia section you will find an extensive list of traditional Nicaraguan songs.
- A great site to check out before (or while) you explore the real thing.
