As of April 1st 2022, Costa Rica will eliminate the Covid Health Pass as a requirement for all foreigners entering the country by land, sea or air. The requirement for Costa Rican nationals has been lifted since March 7th 2022.

This also means unvaccinated foreigners no longer need to purchase a Covid insurance policy as of April 1st. However, the Costa Rican Tourism Board does recommend visitors have a travel insurance policy that covers medical and lodging expenses in the event of getting a COVID-19 infection when in Costa Rica.

Overall, the Health Pass procedure has not been without problems with computer glitches causing frustration for travelers trying to register as well as being to blame for long lines at both international airports; Daniel Doubter Quires (Liberia – Guanacaste) and Juan Santamaria (Ajuela – San Jose).

Beginning April 1, 2022, the Covid Health Pass and travel insurance policy requirements will be eliminated for all individuals. However, a travel insurance policy is recommended to cover medical expenses and lodging in the event of COVID-19 infection.

Also beginning on April 1st, 2022, establishments, activities and events in Costa Rica will be able to operate at 100% capacity without requiring a vaccination QR code.

Honduras

Meanwhile, Honduras, our neighbor to the north, currently has the following COVID requirements in place for those entering the country:

A negative COVID-19 PCR or antigen test, dated no more than 72 hours before the date of your arrival.

OR

Evidence that you have received your COVID-19 vaccines (vaccination card) showing you have received two doses (or one dose if it was a one dose vaccine) with the last dose administered more than 14 days before your date of travel.

Honduras also has a pre-check form. They recommend keeping a printed version of your confirmation email on you at all times. https://prechequeo.inm.gob.hn.

Nicaragua

There is no official talk of any changes to the PCR-RT requirement in the foreseeable future.

Nothing has changed since July 2020 when the testing requirement was introduced as;

A Real-time Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) for COVID-19, carried out in a period not exceeding 72 hours prior to entry into the country.
