Cuba to Managua Routes have been suddenly suspended by the Mexican airline “Viva Aerobus”. The cancelled flights are the routes; Havana- Cancún- Managua and Santiago de Cuba- Cancún- Managua.
Viva Aerobus have not stated if the cancellation is temporary or permanent or given a formal reason for the cancellation. However, the cancellation notice was given shortly after a high level meeting between Cuban and Mexican officials regarding the increase in Cubans arriving at the southern US border. This meeting took place directly before the cancellation announcement.
In March of 2022, more than 32,000 Cubans arrived in the US through the land border southern US; that number is double that of amount that arrived in February 2022 by the same route.
Cuba-Nicaragua Flights Recent History
On November 22nd 2021, Nicaragua lifted the “Visa on Arrival” requirement for Cuban citizens thereby adding Cuba to the list of countries whose citizens qualify for a 90 day stay (Visa Exempt), the same as the USA, Canada, Great Britain, European Union countries and many more.
As a result of the new interest in Cubans wishing to travel to Nicaragua, the Cuba to Managua Routes by Viva Aerobus began flying between Mexico and Cuba with a stop at the Augusto C. Sandino International Airport (MGA) in Managua, Nicaragua.
