On Wednesday December 22nd, 2022, the Directorate of Migration and Foreigners Christmas and New Year Holiday hours for Nicaragua Immigration (horarios de atención) were announced yesterday by Sub- Commander and Deputy Border Chief; Miguel Ortez.

Headquarters – Managua

Also known as “Central”, will be open from 8am until 5pm from Monday to Friday.

Note: The differences of “Monday to Friday” for this year.

Official location of Migracion Headquarters (most cabs will know) is; “From the Traffic Lights at Tenderí, 300 meters north towards the lake” or Semáforos de la Tenderí 300 metros al lago.

Departmental Offices (SERTRAMI’s)

At the National level, all twenty seven of the local immigration offices (Servicio de Trámites Migratorios) will be open from Monday to Saturday from 8am until 5pm in the afternoon.

IN ADDITION; On Sundays, the Sertrami’s in Metrocentro and Multicentro Las Américas will be open from 10am until 1pm which will be additional holiday hours for Nicaragua Immigration. Although this will allow those needing to process paperwork on December 25th and January 1st, those two locations traditionally have not been able to help foreigners with their “Extensions of Stay” or other issues.

Border Posts

The Deputy Border Chief added “In the case of Peñas Blancas (Border with Costa Rica), the scheduled hours are from 6am to Midnight daily”. He added that “Hours are always in coordination with the Costa Rican authorities”. Interactive Map of all Border Posts.

Costa Rica Authorities Announces Re-Construction of Peñas Blancas Border Post

The project will begin in the second week of January 2023 with the construction of new buildings, the remodeling some of the existing structures as well as streets, walkways and landscaping. It will be a four stage project; Stage 1; new merchandise control areas. Stage 2; new passenger control buildings, Stage 3; re-modelling of offices and Stage 4; re-construction of the main traffic route to include roundabouts and new signage.
