This week, consumers will face another increase in gasoline and propane prices.

As of Sunday 17th October 2021;

Super gasoline will sell for 41.96 Córdobas per liter, or 158.82 Córdobas per gallon.

Regular gasoline will sell for 40.90 Córdobas per liter, or 154.80 Córdobas per gallon, and;

Diesel will sell for 36.57 Córdobas per liter, or 138.41 Córdobas per gallon.

These prices are for Managua. Typically prices in the rest of the country are higher because of distribution costs. Therefore the price at the pump may be different but the percentage increase will be comparative.

Breakdown of Increase

Super Gasoline will go up 0.79 Córdobas per liter

Regular will go up 0.83 Córdobas per liter, and

Diesel will go up 0.63 Córdobas per liter

When converted into gallons (@ 3.785 liters to the gallon), the increases are Super – 3.00 Córdobas, Regular – 3.14 Córdobas and Diesel 2.38 Córdobas.

Gasoline and Propane Prices – Regulation

None of the gasoline related products above are regulated in Nicaragua and are all priced at “free market prices”.

However, the INE (Nicaraguan Institute of Energy) does provide a weekly price guide as a consumer service.

However, it does regulate the propane prices (below) due to the “essential domestic use” nature of the product.

Propane (LPG) or “Gas Licuado”

According to the Nicaraguan Institute of Energy (INE) web site, and following the trend of the previous weeks increase, all tank sizes of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) have increased in price and are predicted to rise again this coming week.

This week the most popular 25 pound tank went up by 12.50 Córdobas from 434.25 to 447.5 Córdobas.

The small 10-pound cylinder went up by 5 Córdobas from 179.50 to 184.50 Córdobas and the 100-pound cylinder went up by 57.25 Córdobas from 2,000 Córdobas to 2,057.25 Córdobas.

The 100 pound tanks include 15% IVA (Value Added Tax) as they are considered commercial.

Again, these are Managua distributor’s prices. Check the list at the INE link above for departmental pricing.

Consumer organizations report that so far this year, the price of a tank of propane has increased 26 times.
