This week, the National Assembly of Nicaragua (the legislative branch of government) has approved an agreement regarding air transportation between Nicaragua and Mexico aimed at strengthening and developing civil aviation and promoting tourism for both nations.

The new agreement seeks to facilitate the authorization of new airlines offering new routes between Mexico and Nicaragua and in turn offer a wider range of connections for passengers and air cargo.

A National Assembly spokesperson commented that “the agreement strengthens the civil aeronautics in Nicaragua by using Nicaraguan laws as well as treaties established by the International Aviation Organization”. Some of the items addressed by the agreement are “issues of safety of air operations, aviation security, rates, commercial opportunities and user fees”.

The Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Assembly of Nicaragua had previously given their unanimous thumbs up to the Air Transport Agreement and now it has the approval of the full assembly. This is the latest step in this ongoing agreement and clears the way for each party to serve the other with notice that they are ready for it to come into force.
