According to Jose A. Freig, Vice President of International Operations at American Airlines, Nicaragua flights will RESUME on November 30th 2022 and RESERVATIONS can be made as of August 29th 2022 for the Miami (MIA) to Managua (MGA) route.

“With our long-awaited return to Nicaragua, we at American complete our network in Latin America, further strengthening our presence in the region as the largest North American airline,” said José A. Freig, Vice President of International Operations for American Airlines.

The start of the reservations at the end of this month (August), with a daily flight starting at the end of November, coincides with the booking period for winter holidays and travel to the region.

That is one factor that makes this announcement sound a bit more real than previous ones. Adding the Vice President of International Operations name to the announcement is another, as well as this time the talk of a return has a flight number, time and aircraft type.

It was on March 26th, 2020 that American Airlines made its last flight to and from Managua. If they do return with Nicaragua flights on November 30th, they will be the first American carrier to resume flights between Miami (MIA) and Managua (MGA) since the Covid-19 Pandemic started.

Cirium (the data and analytics organization for the aviation and travel sector) has reported that the flight itinerary for the resumed route is as follows;

Miami – Managua, Flight AA 2243. Departs MIA at 10:25am, arriving in Managua (MGA) at 12:18pm.

Managua – Miami, Flight AA 928. Departs MGA at 1:20pm, arriving in Miami (MIA) at 4:55pm.

The airplane being used for this flight will be a Boeing 737-800 and has a total capacity of 160 passengers (16 Business Class, 24 Main Cabin Extra and 132 Economy) which allows AA to offer 2,240 weekly seats.

Cirium also quotes an American Airlines total monthly seat offering of 282,584 seats on 1,665 flights from the United States to the Central America region.
