The General Directorate of Migration and Foreigners has announced that Nicaraguan Immigration will continue to provide services throughout the Christmas and New Year’s Holidays.

This applies to border posts, departmental offices and airports, all of which will remain open to nationals and foreigners entering and leaving Nicaragua and/or requiring immigration services at the many service centers around the country.

Any Nicaraguan or person having a citizenship of another nationality will be able to obtain immigration services during this Christmas and New Year’s holiday period at either the Migración y Extranjería Headquarters in Managua or any one of the 27 Departmental SERTRAMIS (Immigration Procedures Service).

Departmental Offices

Héctor Norori, the head of the national SERTRAMI locations declared that the headquarters location in Managua as well as all twenty seven (27) of the Immigration Procedures Service (Servicio de Trámites Migratorios) locations will be open to attend to the public as usual from 8:00am in the morning until 5:00pm in the afternoon.

Borders 24 Hours

Norori also assured that all Nicaraguan border posts will be kept open 24 hours a day for the entry of all visitors. These include; El Guasaule, Las Manos, El Espino in the north as well as Peñas Blancas and San Pancho (Las Tabillas/Los Chiles) in the south.

Nororo noted that the hours at the southern border may vary depending on the provisions of the neighboring country Costa Rica in relation to their hours of operation.

Covid-19 Measures

The SERTRAMI head also reminded the public that all preventive measures against Covid-19 are rigorously implemented in all SERTRAMI offices in Nicaragua.

“We always maintain security measures against COVID-19 and we invite our applicants to use a mask, wash their hands, and distance themselves so that we can avoid the spread of this virus”, concluded Norori.

Trivia: December 22nd is the 42nd Anniversary of the Ministry of the Interior (Ministerio de Gobernación – MIGOB) to which Migración y Extranjería belongs.
