A second Covid-19 testing lab has been opened in Managua for the collection and processing of samples for the detection of Covid-19 from people who require testing to travel abroad.

The facility is located in the Nicaraguan Institute for Health Research (Instituto Nicaragüense de Investigación en Salud or INIS by its acronym in Spanish) in the Bolonia District of Managua).

CHECK WHICH LOCATION YOU NEED TO ATTEND

The new, INIS Covid-19 testing lab location will serve people from Districts one, two, three and four in Managua as well as El Crucero and Ciudad Sandino, San Rafael del Sur, Villa El Carmen and Mateare. Also the departments of León, Chinandega, Carazo and Rivas.
The Laboratory of the National Center for Diagnosis and Reference (CNDR), the original facility at Concepción Palacios Complex (aka La Concha) will continue to serve people who live in Districts V, VI and VII of Managua, as well as the municipalities of Tipitapa, San Francisco Libre and Ticuantepe, and the departments of Madriz, Nueva Segovia, Estelí, Granada, Masaya, Chontales, Río San Juan, Central Zelaya, Boaco, Matagalpa, Jinotega, North Caribbean Coast Region (RACCN), Region of the South Caribbean Coast (RACCS) and Las Minas.
As with the Concepción Palacios location, the new laboratory is providing the service of Covid-19 testing to those citizens and visitors that need to be tested for foreign travel. Anticipating an increase in visitors returning to their home countries or onward travel, the government has opened the second clinic “in order to maintain a prompt level of customer service”.

Dr. Carlos Saenz, General Secretary of the Ministry of Health (commonly known by its acronym as MINSA) said that the new laboratory is open to take samples from 7am until 11am, Monday through Saturday (closed on Sunday). Results are available from 3pm each day for those who want or need to collect them in person. (See On-line Registration below)

Saenz confirmed that the testing being carried out is for those traveling abroad and requiring a Real Time PCR test.

A staff of twenty-one will be providing the testing services at the new INIS facility which consists of four waiting rooms, a “Caja” (payment center), a data recording area as well as the laboratories for the actual on-site testing
