Updated Entry Requirements Nicaragua

With the Minister of Health of Nicaragua (MINSA) announcing the end of COVID 19 testing and proof of vaccination since the 21st of July 2023, this post will serve as the Updated Entry Requirements for Nicaragua.

The Ministerio de Gobernación (MIGOB) website (Ministry of the Interior) shows their Updated Entry Requirements for Nicaragua in the same two boxes as before on the Procedure Information Portal of the MIGOB web site. This is the umbrella organization that MIGRACION (Immigration) reports to.

There are still only two main differences to each list (air or land), which are; the “Application for Orderly and Secure Entry” for those entering Nicaragua by land (not mentioned as a requirement under those entering Nicaragua by air) and the second being the small difference in entry fees for tourism (air versus land).

Entry by Land (Ingreso Vía Terrestre)

1) Application for orderly and secure entry, which must be submitted before entering the country. You can make this request online at https://solicitudes.migob.gob.ni

2) Upon entering (through an authorized border post), you must comply with the immigration clearance procedure. This includes providing a specific address and telephone number for health follow-up purposes.

3) Present a passport valid for more than six months and in good condition.

4) NOTE: Nationals of CA-4 member countries (Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras) may enter Nicaragua by presenting an original and current identity card and are exempt from immigration fees.

5) Foreign tourists must carry an entry visa in the case of persons from countries that require one.

6) Foreigners who are legal residents of Nicaragua must present a valid Residency Card (or proof of being in the renewal process if applicable).

7) Covid Requirements REMOVED

8) Yellow fever vaccination card, if you come from a country at risk (according to the WHO list). This card does not expire but again the vaccination card must be in good condition.

9) Economic solvency.

10) Upon entry to Nicaragua, pay the immigration fees of; a US $3 entry fee (NOT REQUIRED BY THOSE ENTERING BY AIR) and US $10 for the INTUR Tourist Card (ALSO REQUIRED FOR THOSE ENTERING BY AIR).

Entry by Air (Ingreso Vía Aérea)

1) Upon entering (through an authorized border post), you must comply with the immigration clearance procedure. This includes providing a specific address and telephone number for health follow-up purposes.

2) Present a passport valid for more than six months and in good condition.

3) NOTE: Nationals of CA-4 member countries (Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras) may enter Nicaragua by presenting an original and current identity card and are exempt from immigration fees.

4) Foreign tourists must carry an entry visa in the case of persons from countries that require one.

5) Foreigners who are legal residents of Nicaragua must present a valid Residency Card (or proof of being in the renewal process if applicable).

6) Covid Requirements REMOVED

7) Yellow fever vaccination card, if you come from a country at risk (according to the WHO list). This card does not expire but again the vaccination card must be in good condition.

8) Economic solvency.

9) Upon entry to Nicaragua purchase the US $10 INTUR Tourist Card.

NOTES (for both Land and Air);

Transit passengers must meet these requirements in addition to those required by the country of their final destination.

The procedures for entering with transport (by land), household items or animals must be carried out before the corresponding authorities.

The visa granted to citizens of another nationality does not imply their unconditional admission to the territory, regardless of their migratory category, if they have been included in the grounds for inadmissibility of Law 761 “General Law of Migration and Aliens” and its regulations.

Editor’s Note: No mention on either list of requiring a return ticket or proof of onward travel. However both lists mention Economic Solvency (which would be a rare ask). F.Y.I., according to Article 46 of the Regulations to Law No. 761 (General Law of Migration and Foreigners), “Economic Solvency” is described as three times the current minimum monthly wage of the “Industrial Sector” approved by the National Minimum Wage Commission. Currently in 2023 that would be the equivalent of about US $575.
